Korean music groups are also very popular in Japan, and even now, many groups such as BTS and TWICE have gained tremendous support. IOI is also a Korean girl group that has gained high popularity in Japan and continues to be loved by many fans even now that they have disbanded.

IOI was formed by members who were selected through an audition held at “PRODUCE 101”.

“PRODUCE 101” is a Korean audition program on Mnet. The Korean male idol group Wanna One, which was a popular program that caused a social phenomenon in South Korea and disbanded on January 27, 2019, was formed by the successful applicants of season 2 of “PRODUCE 101” and made its debut. 

About IOI

The members of IOI are formed by beautiful women who ranked in the final 11th place in the first season of “PRODUCE 101”. They made their debut with the mini-album “Chrysalis” released on May 4th, 2016, followed by the single “WHATTA MAN” on August 9th of the same year and the second mini-album “miss me?” on October 17th of the same year.

IOI has gained the support of many fans not only in Korea but also in Japan. IOI disbanded on January 31, 2017, in the midst of overwhelming momentum.

IOI originally debuted as a girl group for a limited time. IOI seems to have disbanded as the deadline has come.

There are many fans who want the reunion of IOI, and the seven members Jeon Somi, Kim Chungha, Kim Sohye, Jeon Chaeyoung, Kim Doyoung, Kang Mina, and Lim Nayoung will reunite. It was even reported that they were planning to do so. However, due to the vote manipulation incident in the “PRODUCE 101” series, there are no plans to reunite.

Kang Mina was the rapper, sub-vocalist, and main dancer of IOI. She is also famous for being a member of Gugudan, a K-pop girl group separate from IOI.

Gugudan debuted in 2016, and Kang Mina is active as an original member of Gugudan. gugudan also gained enthusiastic fans in Japan, releasing a total of 5 mini albums and singles, including the mini album “Act.1 The Little Mermaid” and the single “Act.3 Chococo Factory”, before disbanding.

Even after IOI disbanded, Kang Mina was active as a member of the Gugudan. Together with fellow gugudan member Kim Nayoung and IOI member Kim Sejeong, they formed the sub-unit gugudan SEMINA, and released gugudan SEMINA’s single “SEMINA” on July 10, 2018. bottom.

Kang Mina, who was also active as a member of another sub-unit, gugudan 5959, along with Cho Hye Young. Even after Gugudan disbanded, she is still working under Jellyfish Entertainment.

After the disbandment of IOI, Joo Kyulkyung became a member of another girl group, PRISTIN. PRISTIN debuted with the mini-album “HI! PRISTIN” released on March 21, 2017, and gained tremendous popularity like IOI. Joo Kyul Kyung is also active as a member of the group’s unit PRISTIN V and has released her single “Like a V”.

Since she was a member of PRISTIN, Joo Kyul Kyung has been doing solo activities and released the single “Why” on September 6, 2018. Now that PRISTIN has disbanded, they are active mainly in China.

Kim Do-young is the lead vocalist for Weki Meki. Weki Meki is also attracting the attention from Japanese K-POP fans, and there must be many people who became Kim Do-young’s fans through Weki Meki.

Even before joining IOI, Nayeon was active in the entertainment industry. She’s a pretty face, and when she was a member of IOI, she was the main rapper, dancer, and leader.

After IOI disbanded, Nayeon became a member of PRISTIN. She is also the leader of PRISTIN and is active as a lead rapper, sub-vocalist, and main dancer. PRISTIN will be disbanded on May 24, 2019, and Nayeon has moved from Pledis Entertainment to Sublime Artist Agency and is currently working as an actress and model.

Jeong Chaeyoung was active as a member of the girl group DIA, which debuted in 2015 since she was a member of IOI. She has been active as an original member of DIA since her debut, but in December 2015, she temporarily left DIA with Ki Hee Hyun, who was under the name “Keshi” at the time, to participate in “PRODUCE 101”. Ki Hee Hyun returned to DIA in May 2016, and Jung Chae Young returned to DIA in June of the same year.

Even after IOI disbanded, Jeon Chaeyoung continued to be active as a member of DIA. Although she did not participate in the mini-album “Flower 4 Seasons” released on June 10, 2020, with Ahn Somi, the two are still members of DIA. Jeon Chaeyoung and Ahn Somi are also scheduled to participate in the next work.

Yoo Young Jung is the main vocalist of IOI. She is a beautiful woman with gorgeous looks, and she has many fans regardless of gender.

Yoo Yeon Jung has been active as a member of Cosmic Girls since July 2016. Before IOI disbanded, she was compatible with Cosmic Girls activities, and even after IOI disbanded, she is still active as a member of Cosmic Girls.

Cosmic Girls are also very popular in Japan, and in 2019 they held their first mini-live tour in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. It was also planned to hold a solo live in Japan in 2020, but due to the influence of the new coronavirus, the original schedule was postponed and then canceled.

On March 20, 2020, when she was showing great momentum as a member of gugudan, Kim Sejeong released her solo mini-album “Flower Pot”. Although gugudan ended its activities on December 31, 2020, Kim Sejeong is still active as a singer.

In addition to her activities as a singer, Kim Sejeong is also doing her acting business. She starred in the TV drama “Koi Suru Lemonade” broadcasted in 2017, and played the role of Do Hana in “Evil Hunting Group: Counters” broadcasted from November to January 2020.

IOI Members

Formed by the successful applicants of the Korean audition program “PRODUCE 101”, IOI has won many fans. It is also supported by Japanese K-POP fans, and even when it disbanded, many fans were expecting a reunion.

The members of IOI are active in their own ways even after the dissolution of IOI. All of them have been successful in their new activities, and there is no doubt that they will gain more fans through their activities in the future.

All the songs released by IOI before its dissolution are masterpieces that have earned high praise from K-POP fans. There are songs that can be recommended even for music fans who don’t listen to K-POP much, so if you listen to famous songs such as “Dream Girls” and “Very Very Very” that are very popular with fans, everyone should be captivated by IOI.
