BTS English Proficiently Ranking
BTS has seen a sharp increase in exposure to overseas programs since 2017. At first, they had a hard time with English because all the members were born and raised in Korea. However, recently, everyone’s English ability has improved dramatically, and you can see that they are actively answering interviews in English.
We will introduce their current high level of English ability in a ranking format!

7th Place Jimin
Jimin is not very good at English, but he is said to have good pronunciation. He speaks English that is easy to hear with few accents. In fact, Jimin’s English is highly regarded by English pronunciation teachers. He is very good at breathing, accenting, and pronunciation when it comes to speaking English, and he speaks while naturally incorporating English rhythms and gestures.
Recreating these skills is not easy, and he says Jimin has a sense. Recently, he seems to be actively studying English, and there are days when he studied for 8 hours while everyone was sleeping on a moving airplane! It seems to be a stoic Jimin. He saw the same scene repeatedly so that he could understand Boss Baby without subtitles.
Jimin saw Namjoon struggling to interpret the members’ English and decided to learn English.

6th Place Suga

When he met rapper Machine Gun Kelly, Namjoon told him after that the members had been embarrassed because they couldn’t speak English,
Suga suddenly said, “I saw your video! It was very good.” he then talked and spoke fluent English. The members are surprised because Suga suddenly started speaking English! The calm and dignified appearance of speaking English is also cool! The pronunciation is clear and easy to hear.

5th Place V
It’s cute that V is actively speaking in English that he knows! Even short expressions are answered in the same way that native speakers actually use. In an interview, he is proud to show off the English comments he had prepared! V doesn’t speak English fluently, but he is good at speaking English, isn’t he?
You can look like someone who can speak English by connecting and speaking English without separating them with words. Perhaps he is trying to speak something close to native English, he seems to be careful about his pronunciation. However, V hasn’t been able to speak English for a long time.
It seems that he wanted to check the bus stop, but unfortunately, he don’t understand English, so he was asking “Go?” While showing the paper. Such V is cute, but he also started studying English online in earnest last year and is taking classes for one hour a day and looking forward to further growth!
4th Place J-Hope
J-hope wasn’t originally able to speak English, but as his work abroad increased, he started studying so that Namjoon, who pulls in English, wouldn’t have any trouble. As you say, “I’m going to talk a lot next to you,” you see people actively talking near Namjoon in an interview in the United States.
J-hope also uses expressions such as “We are enjoying the ride!” that you wouldn’t know if you weren’t studying. J-Hope speaks brightly and humorously, so it goes well with English, which is rich in the emotional expression!
At the American concert, there was also a figure that conveys all the messages to the fans in English. It’s slow, but you can see how hard they are trying to convey their thoughts using the language of that country!
In the American radio program “iHeartRadio” that appeared last year, it was also talked about that J-Hope’s English ability is growing rapidly! It looks like he is having a natural conversation in English, rather than telling what you’ve prepared.

3rd Place Jin
Jin is not fluent in English, but he seems to be able to speak without an interpreter if it is simple communication. He has been able to properly receive and answer conversations with the clerk! In addition, interviews in English are explained in English that he can understand without any prior preparation.
There are some mistakes in the details such as words and grammar, but it can be said that Jin’s English ability is high in that he can answer not only words but also sentences even if he improvises. Even though it’s in English, it doesn’t shrink, and it shows the usual humor!
Actually, Jin has had a short-term study abroad experience in Australia when he was a student, but he doesn’t speak much English, so he doesn’t talk about studying abroad.
2nd Place Jungkook
The youngest child, Jungkook, is rapidly improving his English proficiency.
It is whispered that he had scored two points on the English test when he was a student, but his current English proficiency is continuously improving! He was able to answer Jimmy Fallon’s interview in my own words, albeit slowly.
Overseas fans were surprised at his English ability and the voices of “Jungkook, you really got better at English” and “Jungkook is English King!” Were raised! Compared to Jungkook’s English proficiency in 2017, its growth is obvious.
At this time, his English grammar isn’t good enough, and it’s cute to connect words and have a hard conversation! Jungkook decided to study English because of his longing for Namjoon. Whenever he went abroad, he saw Namjoon, who was always answering by himself, and started studying so that he could help.
At Gourami, who appeared in 2019, he prepared his own comments so that he could answer in an interview. He’s practicing like this all the time in his spare time.
Jungkook was unanimously selected for the question, “Who is studying English the most?”! It is important to study English continuously, but it seems that he is spending his time studying English even when he’s busy.
1st Place Namjoon

The most proficient in speaking English is Namjoon! In interviews abroad, he receives and answers like a native, but surprisingly he has never lived abroad. When he was just 12 years old, he studied abroad in New Zealand for only 4 months, but he learned English by himself by watching the American drama “FRIENDS” many times.
Namjoon speaks beautiful English and he doesn’t have to worry about pronunciation and accents.
Namjoon originally speak English, but when you look at the 2017 interview, you can see that he is a little nervous. You can hear the same words such as “you know” and “maybe” being used repeatedly.
However, at the 2019 Grammy, it looks like there is plenty of room for facial expressions and answers! He stepped on the number of venues, but think it’s a big effort on a daily basis. And Namjoon’s English ability is not just about correct grammar and the number of words he knows. The point is how he speaks in a way that he can speak English.
Namjoon speaks a little differently when he speaks Korean and when he speaks English. When you are communicating in English, you can see that the tension is a little higher than usual and the way of laughing is also exciting.
